My story
begins here :

How did I become a professional organizer? Being an organized 'freak', as some would call me, is in my blood. I was born that way, I believe. Even as a child, organization was what I was all about. At the age of ten, I may have been different than most ten year olds. I so vividly remember my bedroom projects that I took pride in as a little girl. At age ten, I had a sunny bedroom design. My mother helped me achieve the results, but the ideas were mine. The walls were painted a bright yellow, a color I so carefully selected, and my curtains and comforter were covered with white and yellow daisies, my favorite flowers. My bedroom had large windows with bright sunlight always shining through, so it was sunny indeed . I remember how well I had everything organized to go with the sunny design-right down to my toys and dolls.
Then, by the time I was a teenager, my style changed a bit. As I reflect back, I kind of chuckle a bit thinking about the time I decided to go with red satin. Yes, red satin! This was back in the 70's so it wasn't out of the ordinary, not really. We painted the walls white, but the rest of the room was highlighted with reds and blacks. My comforter was a red satin. It was the talk of the neighborhood and my friends thought I was cool and stylish. As I outgrew dolls and toys, my room was then organized with records, record player, and posters of my favorite bands. My cosmetics and hair styling tools were organized to a point of my being called a neat freak.
As I grew older, my organizational skills and talents carried over into my grown up home, marriage, family, and every job I ever had. If you asked my family to describe me in just a few words, they would say, "Everything has a place!" Yep, that's me. I believe and achieve the philosophy that everything has its own place. And, everything must be put back in its place when it isn't being used.
My sons, now grown men, will tell you that I probably drove them a little crazy always working them to keep their rooms organized. At some point in their teen years, I had to come to the acceptance that being organized just isn't in their blood as it is mine. But, never-the-less, I tried my best to keep them organized and I was successful in keeping parts of our home and family life organized. However, I did have to learn to let go in some areas.
In my professional life, working for others, I was always the organizer-no matter what my title was. I have carried titles such as manager, office manager, executive director, case manager, program manager, fundraiser, and grant writer. In each and every capacity of work that I have done for employers, organizations, and the community, my desires to be fully organized along with my skills and talents in planning and applying organization, is what made me successful. Not only that, I know that by offering my gift and talents of being an organizer made a difference for each.
In my most recent employment, before I ventured out on my own as a self-employed-professional organizer, I was hired to develop an office system for a retail business that was growing leaps and bounds. They were in transition from being a one employee store to having eleven employees, ten times the square footage, and millions more in inventory. They tried to keep going as they always had, but it wasn't working. So, I accepted the position and set up their front office with a system that made it work without all of the confusion, stress and loss. As my second nature of being organized was at work, I was told many times that I was the most organized person that they had ever known. I no longer work for this company, but I hear that they are still using the system that I organized.
In the beginning of this year, I found myself unemployed. This was the case after learning that I had a brain aneurysm. Learning that you have a life-threatening condition will certainly cause you to do some self-evaluating and will encourage you to look at your future. For a couple of months after I healed from having stents placed in my brain, I searched high and low for a job. I kept running into deadends, at least that is what it felt like. One day, I had a light bulb go off in my head. I know that I am an excellent organizer. I can organize anything and everything. From the home, to the office, to the special events, I am good at organizing! So, I decided to give it a shot at being a professional organizer for hire. To my surprise, the first month I began marketing this business, I immediately gained new clients. Now, I believe that this is my calling. There is no better feeling than to go in and help people Get Organized, and to stand with them basking in the final results. It is hard work, but it is rewarding.
In addition to organizing, I have always been a writer as a hobby. So, how perfect is this that I can tie in my hobby with my profession. Hence, the beginning of this blog site.
